Panasonic says the Lumix DMC-GM5 is an addition to the range, rather than a replacement for the GM1, and is camera that brings some of the company’s new features from the top end Lumix DMC-Lumix DMC-GH4 to the small end of the Lumix G range.The GM1 was intended to be stylish - trying to be fashion accessory as well as a competent camera. The GM5 adds a click control dial and a new button layout to offer much improved handling and easier access to critical functions.Other new features include the addition of an electronic viewfinder, a hotshoe, an improved rear screen and faster and more flexible autofocusing. Different regions get different kit options. In the US, the GM5 will be available with the G Vario 12-35mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH ($899) or, at some time in the future, with the 12-32mm and compact 35-100mm f/4-5.6. Europe gets a broader range of options but Euro pricing isn't yet available. There will be a 12-32mm kit (£769 in the UK) and the dual zoom kit, plus another with the Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH (£1049). The body will be available in black or black and red in the zoom kit, but black only for the 15mm kit. There'll be a silver and green version in Asia but we're told it won't be coming to other markets.
