Now if you’re coming from lower level dslr’s, you’re going to notice quite a difference in size, especially with the d500. Its really quite a larger dslr but does feel really good in your hand. If you are looking to travel a bit more though, the d7200 is going to be a slightly lighter choice and might be something to look into. On the top right here, we’ve got a number of quick access buttons which is nice, and both have dedicated record buttons, although i Must say that the d500’s is in a little bit nice position. On the back of the camera here, you’ll notice that the d7200 is missing something that the d500 has and thats a articualtiong screen, but we’ll talk a bit more about that in a bit. So overall, both cameras feel fantastic, and to me are in the sweet spot size for dslrs. If you really need that pro build, the d500 will be for you, but for most people the d7200 is going to be more than capable. By the way if you want to see a lot of sample images taken with the new d500, i’ll put in a link the description box below and you can take a look for yourself. -So lets quickly have a look at the viewfinders on the back here. Both of the viewfinders are very good, although I did find that the d500’s round viewfinder was slightly easier to see. Both the d500 and the d7200 have 100% viewfinder coverage, although it should be noted that the d7200 only 0.91x magnification whereas the d500 has 1x, so thats something you might want to take into consideration. -Now staying on the back of the camera here, i wanted to talk about the lcd screens on the back. Like I said before, the Nikon d500 has an articulating screen, which means it can be pulled out and tilted up and down. This is kind of bucking the trend for pro cameras as there aren’t many that have this feature. Being a little older, i can kind of understand why the d7200 doesn’t have an articuatling screen, but i would have like to have seen it. Now the d500’s screen isn’t fully articualting though, so don’t get to excited. Cameras form Canon and Panasonic have these fully articulating screens which to me are better, because they really allow to manoeuvre the screen where you want it, which is really useful especially for video work. But it’s nice to see. Overall in terms of clarity and brightness, both of these nikons are great. In fact to me, they have better screens than on the Canon cameras which is saying quite a lot. The D500’s screen is better than the d7200’s but not by as much as you’d think, overall they’re both very very good. By the way guys, definitely make sure to check out my top 10 must have nikon lenses list, i’ll put a link in the description box below this video and you can take a look, but anyway, lets get abckt to this video. -And one thing i didn’t mention before was the touch screen on the back of the d500. This is another kind of interesting feature added to the d500 and one that i didn’t expect to see. How good is it? Well not as good as i’d hoped, but it can be useful for touching to focus, but that’s about it. Compared to cameras like the canon 70d or 80d, it’s really not as advanced and i would’ve like to have seen a better implementation. So if you’ve go the d7200, i wouldn’t feel too bad about not having it on your body. -I just quickly wanted to talk about the menus on these cameras and i’ve got say they’re both very good. TO be totally honest theres not a whole of difference between the two, although i did find that the d500 was slightly quicker scrolling through its menus, perhaps because of it’s newer processor technogly. -Now one intreating feature that the d7200 does have that the d500 doesn’t, is on the top here and that a built in flash. Now a lot of professionals don’t ever use it and i myself don’t use it much either, but having it on your camera, can be a nice little touch if you don’t a fast lens, or your external flash so it might be something to consider. Again, it’s not a big deal to most pro’s, but it be to you. —Now one area where I feel nikon is just killing it compared to canon is in it’s card slots. Both of these cameras have two card slots, which means you can have that peace of mind when your shooting. Lets quickly talk about the burst rate on these cameras and i’ve got to say I’ve been blown away with the speed of the d500. It’s a sports shooters camera for sure.
