This is a series of tests comparing the 720p movie mode of the Nikon D300s against the Nikon D3100.The main reason I created this video was to test whether there is any advantage in me upgrading the 3 Nikon D300s I use for remote stills, video and time-lapse use to the Nikon D3100 camera. The main advantages of the D3100 are size, cost and the new movie mode which includes a new 1080 mode and that records video using H.264 compression rather than the antiquated Motion-JPEG of the D300s.My conclusions from the tests are:1) the D3100 exhibits a visible resolution/compression advantage in 720p movie mode,2) the D3100 LCD screen is lower resolution and more difficult to focus/preview, 3) the D3100 includes a 1080 recording mode that the D300s does not have,4) the D3100 is significantly cheaper and lighter so is ideal for remote camera use.
