Here’s a quick comparison of the Lumix GX8 and the GX85 to see how effective the in-body image stabilization is. I had one camera on top of the other one, and I was holding both with my hands while trying not to fall in the tram. I didn’t have enough time to setup the cameras properly so don’t use this test to judge image quality. I was quickly trying to match the field of view on both cameras before the tram started moving since I was using different lenses, the small 12-32mm kit lens on the GX85 and the 20mm f1.7 pancake on the GX8, plus they have slightly different crops when shooting 4K. Both cameras set to 1/100th in shutter priority. That’s why there are exposure changes and why the GX8 looks brighter sometimes since the maximum aperture is f16 on the f1.7 lens. The stabilization on the GX85 is amazing. Trying to stabilize footage in post is always a hassle since there’s motion blur and rolling shutter, with the GX85 you can easily apply additional stabilization in post if needed. I haven’t tried the electronic image stabilization on the GX85 yet.
