I take a closer look at the Nikon D5300 and D5200 side by side. While both cameras are essentially the same the D5300 adds several new features:Expeed 4 Processor1080p video at 60fps3.2" 1.04 million dot LCDNo optical low pass filter100-12,800 ISOEN-EL 14a battery (600 shots per charge)Built in wifi and gpsDespite these additions the D5300 is still an "entry level" DSLR designed primarily for use on the automatic settings. Despite the similar price point this camera is not designed to compete with the D7000. For advanced shooters the D7000 with it's easier access to manual controls would be a much better camera. If you desire the better controls of the D7000 but also want the latest technology then the D7100 makes more sense. The D5300 is designed for someone that wants all the latest in features and image quality in a smaller body. The D5200 is not really being replaced by the D5300 and represents a better value overall. Despite not having the latest bells and whistles it still shares most of it's core features with the D5300. While there are slight differences in image quality when pixel peeping the image quality difference between these cameras is irreverent in most real-world shooting scenarios.
