This is a composite video made from several photo series, featuring clouds passing over Veteran Acres and Sterne's Woods Parks in Crystal Lake, IL. They were photographed on a Pentax K20d using the "Interval Shooting" setting at 5 seconds between frames, for 100 frames each. A normal video framerate would be about 30 frames per second, but to stretch out the sequences, I ran each photo as two frames -- essentially 15 frames per second. (I wish Pentax would allow an unlimited number of frames in interval shooting, so I could shoot thousands of photos rather than a hundred at a time.) To keep the camera from re-calculating each photo, which would cause light and color variations from one frame to the next, all of the camera settings were on manual. This explains why clouds cause the earth to darken so much -- the camera is using a single manual setting no matter how much light is actually available in the scene over time. The song is "The Willow and the Light" by Kevin MacLeod, and is used here in compliance with Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States (CC BY 3.0). Kevin MacLeod is has a great assortment of music, much of it haunting or mysterious. You can find him at http://www.incompetech.comThis nature video was shot (as photos) during the summer and fall of 2009.
